Purpose:
Emotional Intelligence (EI) enables us to identify the softer skills that we have and need to attain in order to build stronger relationships. EI is viewed best on the four quadrant model below.
Example:
- Self-Awareness: The depth to which I know my self, intents, and feelings.
- Social-Awareness: The depth to which I know the intents and feelings of others.
- Self-Management: The skills and ability I have in managing my own emotions.
- Relationship Management: My ability and willingness to work well with others.
Steps:
- Spend some time learning about EI. Books by Daniel Goleman are useful.
- Take an EI assessment to gauge your current level of EI.
- Develop a plan to grow in your capacity to learn and use EI.
